Pappas station goes dark

In the Bay Area, Pappas Telecasting Companies' KTNC Channel 42 remains on the air but one of its sister stations has gone dark as the company works its way through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Pappas' CW affiliate in Yakima, Wash., KCWK-TV, abruptly signed off the evening of May 25, according to the Yakima Herald-Republic. While the station's transmitter has been turned off, the CW Network is providing a feed to the local cable company.

I used to work for Pappas. In my time, I saw such reckless spending that his bankruptcy comes as no surprise. I'm sorry for the folks in Yakima. I expect more such situations for several other Pappas properties. Harry isn't gonna sell out cheap, thus he's got to drastically cut expenses, including shutting down under-performing stations. This is No. 2 of the 30 he owns. It's one sad mess, for a lot of good people...
